Our roots date back to 1910, when Ralph Erskine founded the Tryon Chair Factory in a newly built 2-story brick factory on Screven Road that still serves as the heart of our facility today. In its early years, the Tryon Chair Factory utilized native craftsmen and designed traditional mountain furniture. The company later expanded to become a leading producer of fine period furniture. By the end of the decade, Mr. Erskine moved the chair operations out of state and the factory was sold in 1919.
Between 1919 and 1948, the facility transitioned from chair manufacturing to package yarn dyeing and yarn mercerizing. In 1948, the company was sold and began focusing exclusively on package yarn dyeing. In 1986, the factory completely rebuilt the yarn dye portion of the building and expanded the operation to include fabric dyeing and printing. Our printing operations, formerly located in Union County, South Carolina were consolidated into the Tryon facility in 2012 bringing rotary screen print, carousel screen print, double sided print and atmospheric jig dying.
Tryon Finishing acquired the business in 2020 and our mission is to build on the proud tradition of American textile manufacturing that started in our building in Western North Carolina more than 100 years ago. Our team members’ top priority is always to serve our customers first, and we look forward to building a relationship with you and servicing your textile manufacturing needs.
